Chocolate covered Oreos are the best homemade Christmas gift! The three different recipes for this easy no-bake treat are so much fun.
Chocolate covered Oreos aren’t exactly a new thing. I’ve been making them for years and have seen them sold in many candy stores. Usually, though, they are plain milk or dark chocolate. After spotting a variety of flavors at Trader Joe’s (and yes, I know, they aren’t technically “Oreos”), and using lots of self-restraint not to buy the big tin, I decided to make my own. That way, I was able to pick my favorite flavor combinations and control what chocolate I use! Bonus, they make a great treat for gift giving and bringing to holiday parties.
For this post I made three variations of Chocolate Covered Oreos:
- Milk chocolate with dark chocolate drizzle
- Peppermint dark chocolate (perfect for Christmas!)
- Milk chocolate peanut butter (peanut butter IN the chocolate AND topping!)
Even though I love baking holiday cookies, it’s nice to change it up once and a while with something that looks extra pretty and fancy (people are always impressed with chocolate dipped anything). Plus, I can’t bring myself to give someone store-bought food gifts. Sidenote: I actually love when people buy me food gifts. Is that weird?

aaaand now I NEED to make the peanut butter chocolate covered Oreo ones!!!!!
Thanks for the recipe, I will try it! I may have noticed an error in the website, you may want to change the title of the 3rd option, it should say “peppermint dark chocolate,” you have “Peanut Butter” listed twice (the last two both say peanut butter at the top of the recipe)
Thanks so much for the nice comment and pointing that out. I’ll be sure that is corrected! Have a great day:-)
Do you need double stuffed or can you use the regular kind?
Either kind will work! You will use slightly less chocolate coating for the regular Oreos and slightly more for the double-stuffed so your output will range accordingly.
SERIOUSLY – how difficult are these to make? On a scale of 1-10 ? :)Was going to try and do cake pops but heard they are really hard to do. Should I buy the melting chocolate discs in Michael’s? If I use those do I need to add the butter?
Hi Jennifer- I love cake pops, too, but they are definitely more steps and more time consuming. I’d say 1 being easy, 10 being super difficult, maybe a 2? Plus, if they get messy, you can use your toppings to hide any chocolate smears;-) I prefer regular good quality chocolate for taste, but if you want to use the melting disks you can do that without the butter. Hope you enjoy!
Thank you – I am going with the OREOS and I bought the discs at MICHAELS. How FAR in advance can I make these?? A week or two? Don’t want to wait but don’t want them to get soggy or stale???
I’d suggest a max of two weeks. Just make sure they are in a moderate temperature so that the chocolate doesn’t turn.
Hi Jennifer-
If you don’t ind saying…which brands of chocolate do you typically use?
Thanks. Judy
Hi, thanks for the recipe! I was wondering if this chocolate covered oreo will melt fast if they are on the candy buffet table during warmer days? I live in the tropical, but I want to decorate the table with the chco covered oreo’s.
Hi Kavita – I’m not sure exactly how long they can sit out, but they’d probably melt as quickly as regular chocolate when sitting out in warm weather.
